👪 Report reveals hundreds of families accessing cannabis illegally in the UK


A new report published by the charity Medan Family Foundation this month revealed almost 400 families are sourcing illegal cannabis products from drug dealers and overseas retailers, to treat their child’s epilepsy, due to a lack of NHS prescribing.


Elements of the report, Open Secret: use of illegal cannabis by families managing childhood epilepsy, featured in a BBC File on 4 radio documentary on 14 January and Hannah Deacon, chair and co-founder of Medcan, also appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss the findings. ⚖️ CBD company sues UK government for £3.4m


Ocean Development Ltd and connected retail business CBD Flower Shop Ltd are seeking £3.4 million in damages from the Home Office amid allegations of ‘unlawful conduct’ after a shipment of hemp was detained by the UK Border Force. According to reports from Business of Cannabis, the lawsuit accuses the Home Office of breaching human rights protections and causing significant financial harm. Read more >>


🇺🇦 Ukraine registers first medical cannabis products


The first medical cannabis products have been registered in Ukraine, with patients expected to be able to access treatment in the coming weeks. Curaleaf International has reportedly registered three separate oil-based products in the country, which legalised medical cannabis last August. Read more >>


🇫🇷 France extends medical cannabis trial while patients find ‘alternatives’


French health authorities have extended its medical cannabis experiment until 31 July, 2025, giving the 1,800 patients enrolled on the trial more time to find ‘alternative treatments’. The experiment was due to end on 31 December 2024, but at a meeting with patient associations the Ministry of Health gave the green light for it to run for a further six months, local media reported. The extension will be granted only "with a view to weaning patients off the drug or finding alternatives", according to a letter from the Health Minister, Geneviève Darrieussecq. Read more >>

 

🇧🇪 Tilray wins tender to supply medical cannabis in Luxembourg


Earlier this month Tilray was awarded a tender by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Health to supply the country with medical cannabis flower, in a contract secured through the company’s German subsidiary, Tilray Deutschland GmbH. It came days after new regulations came into force prohibiting high-THC cannabis flower on prescription. Read more >>
